Prof. Dr. Bernhard R. Brandl: “Future PAH Research with METIS on the ELT”

ABSTRACT: The Mid-infrared ELT Imager and Spectrograph (METIS) will be one of three science instruments on ESO’s 39 meter Extremely Large Telescope (ELT). Focusing on the thermal/mid-infrared (3 – 13 microns) wavelengths range of the electromagnetic spectrum, it will be able to detect a variety of PAH species, at angular scales of a few tens of milli-arcseconds. In this talk I will provide a few PAH science examples of what METIS will be able to do on proto-planetary disks and star forming regions.
